New Feature: Female Xboxes
Ok it took me about 5 minutes to decide whether the plural of Xbox is Xboxes or Xboxs (Xboxii?)... I can see a case for either way!
Anyhow... my fingers are crossed for tonights blog processing... I spent a lot of time this afternoon changing the processor file to be gender specific. So now, when you picked your gender during registration, it will actually make a difference.
This is also the first step towards multiple male and female voices... even internationalization. I already had one person offer to do an Italian translation. Any other takers for other countries?
So what exactly did I do? Well we aren't doing anything too fancy... There is a randomizer that re-seeds and then pulls from a list of 10 possible phrases for each section of the post. I simply broke out the code into functions for each section of the blog entry passing in the "voice" variable... in this case "Male" or "Female". Inside each function is a new case statement that checks for the different possible values of voice (only two right now, but more in the future) and selects a random entry.
Sneak peek:
Case "Male"
Select Case numRand
Case 1 strEntry = "<a href=""" & strProfileURL & """>" & strTag & "</a> hit the switch and fired me up yesterday. His total gamer score is " & numScore1 & ". "Case "Female"
Select Case numRand
Case 1 strEntry = "<a href=""" & strProfileURL & """>" & strTag & "</a> hit the switch and fired me up yesterday. Her total gamer score is " & numScore1 & ". "
You get the idea...
I am sure there is room for improvement, but it seems to work fine in limited testing... we will see tonight when it gets pounded by over 1500 gamertags!
Final note: We will be deleting and re-processing all the entries for any female gamer tags (30+ of you know who you are!)... so sometime soon all your entries should be female-friendly. That is Steve's job... have at it Steve!!
